A 34-year-old lorry helper was burnt alive in an accident when the vehicle came in direct contact with a high-voltage live power line in Kazipally, Sangareddy early on Saturday.
The deceased, Ram Sujan, a native of Madhya Pradesh, was reportedly trying to assist in removing a stone stuck in the rear tyres of the vehicle using a hydraulic jack when the mishap occurred at around 6.10 a.m.
According to M. Ravinder Reddy, Inspector of IDA Bollaram police, the lorry had arrived in the area after unloading quarry stones at a nearby crushing point. “However, while on their way back, the driver Tarath Singh, brother-in-law of Ram Sujan, noticed a large stone lodged in the gap between the rear tyres and stopped to remove it,” said the officer.
Unaware of the overhead 11 kV power line, Singh and Sujan attempted to operate the hydraulic system to suspend the vehicle and then use a crowbar to pull the stone out. “However, the vehicle’s body came in contact with the live wire and killed Sujan, who was holding the lorry’s door at the time,” explained the officer.
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot, but the vehicle was already engulfed in flames by the time they arrived. Sujan died on the spot, while Singh escaped with minor injuries. The body was shifted for post-mortem, and a case has been registered by the Sangareddy police.
