Man found hanging inside Coimbatore police station

COIMBATORE: An unidentified man was found dead by hanging inside the Bazaar Police Station in the city late Tuesday night.The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when police officers went to the first floor of the station.According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Rajan, 51, from Perur in Coimbatore district. He allegedly visited the Bazaar Police Station on Tuesday night, claiming that someone was beating him. Upon inquiry, it was revealed that Rajan was mentally unstable. The police calmed him down and sent him on his way.While the officers at the station were occupied with their duties, Raja reportedly sneaked into the Investigation Wing Sub-Inspector's room on the first floor and hanged himself from the fan using his lungi.On Wednesday morning, officers discovered the Crime Sub-Inspector's room was locked from the inside. They broke down the door and found Raja hanging.The police recovered the body and sent it to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a postmortem. Further investigation is underway.
