A man, earlier arrested for rape and kidnap of a minor, was sentenced to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by a special court in Medchal on Thursday (September 4, 2025). The court also slapped a fine of ₹20,000 on the accused, identified as Addala Nani, 28, a labourer, while the victim was awarded a compensation of ₹2 lakh.
The case came to light on September 2, 2020 when the grandfather of a minor girl lodged a complaint stating that she had left home and not returned. During investigation, the girl was traced, and in her statement she revealed that the accused, who lived nearby, had lured her to an isolated spot and sexually assaulted her multiple times. Based on her statement, the case was altered to Sections 366(A), 376(2)(n) IPC and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Nani, a resident of Alwal and originally from East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, was arrested by the Alwal police and remanded to judicial custody.
Delivering judgment, the Fast Track Special Court for Expeditious Trial and Disposal of Rape and POCSO Act Cases at Medchal convicted Nani, awarding him 20 years rigorous imprisonment for rape and 10 years for kidnap, along with fines totalling to ₹ 20,000 for both the offences.
