A bike rider allegedly misbehaved with a woman passenger in Tirupati around midnight on Saturday. The man was identified as Peddaiah, an MBA student working part-time as a bike rider for a bike taxi aggregator.

According to the Alipiri police, the woman booked a ride late on Saturday night. The accused Peddaiah took up the ride. After dropping her at her home in a remote locality on Renigunta road, he reportedly misbehaved with her. The panicked woman raised an alarm, following which her husband and neighbours apprehended him and severely thrashed him, before handing him over to the police.

Alipiri Circle Inspector P. Ramakishore, who was on night patrol at that time, took the accused man into custody and obtained a one-year bindover order on him from the local Tahsildar, with a promise that he would not repeat such offences in future.

Reacting to the incident, Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu issued a stern warning to those misbehaving with women.

In the same vein, the SP advised female passengers to note down the rider’s name and vehicle number, share the details with their family and also to always keep the live location sharing option on till the end of the trip. “Whenever possible especially during night travel opt for female riders for safety,” the SP added.
