Man held for rape, forced abortion of 24-yr-old woman in Jajpur

Kendrapada: A 27-year-old man was arrested in Jajpur district on Saturday night for raping a 24-year-old woman multiple times on the pretext of marriage and forcing her to undergo abortion, police said on Sunday.The survivor consumed poison on Tuesday after the accused threatened to release her private photos and videos on social media when she refused to continue with the relationship. Her parents found her vomiting and when questioned, she admitted to having consumed poison. Her parents then rushed her to a hospital in Jajpur. She was discharged on Friday.“She lodged an FIR on Saturday against the accused, her neighbour. She alleged that for the past two years, the accused was sexually exploiting her under the false promise of marriage and also forced her to undergo an abortion four months back. Acting on the FIR, police launched an investigation and arrested him under various sections of BNS,” said investigating officer Prasant Kumar Das.Das further added that the accused was produced in the local court on Sunday. The court rejected his bail application and remanded him in jail custody.
