A 40-year-old man was arrested by Natrampalli police in Tirupattur on Sunday for selling lottery tickets online.

The arrested person was identified as V. Gangatharan, a resident of Natrampalli town. Based on the orders of Tirupattur SP V. Shyamala Devi, special teams were formed to nab online lottery traders in the district. Accordingly, Ms. Devi got a complaint about such online trading in Natrampalli town and surrounding areas in the district and subsequently, the police were directed to investigate the complaint.

Initial inquiry revealed that suspect Gangatharan was involved in online selling of lottery tickets in surrounding areas for the past few years. Police traced him after conducting an investigation in the area. Gangatharan was doing odd jobs before he switched over to online lottery sales.

Each online ticket, on an average, was sold between ₹70-₹100, depending on price money. After receiving the online payment, the suspect would sell the tickets to buyers. Prize money is also paid to winners in cash.

Police have seized two laptops, three mobile phones and ₹80,000 from him. A case was registered by Natrampalli police. A probe is underway.
