Man Out On Bail For Killing First Wife, Now Prime Suspect In Murder Of Second

In what appears to be a double murder case, the decomposed bodies of a 74-year-old woman and her 43-year-old daughter were recovered from their rented home in Thrissur’s Padiyoor village in Kerala on Wednesday evening.

The victims have been identified as Mani, a native of Karalam Vellani, and her daughter Rekha.

The suspected murder came to light after neighbours complained of foul smell emanating from the house. Following this, the locals informed Mani’s elder daughter, Sindhu, an employee at the Irinjalakuda Boys’ School. Upon arrival, Sindhu gained access through the back entrance and found the house ransacked and both bodies lying in a state of decomposition. She immediately informed the police.

The police reached the scene and launched an investigation into the matter.

Preliminary examination suggests that the women may have been strangled or suffocated to death. However, the exact cause of death is not been determined yet. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

According to NDTV, the police is suspecting the role of Rekha’s husband in the murder.  The 48-year-old Premkumar, a native of Kottayam district, married Rekha in her second marriage, and has a prior criminal record.

Premkumar is currently out on bail in connection with the 2019 murder of his first wife, Vidya, in Udayamperoor. In that case, he was accused of murdering her and disposing of the body in a forested area.

The police has also found a handwritten note from the house. However, it is believed to be from Premkumar. Notably, days before her death, Rekha had filed a formal police complaint of domestic violence against Premkumar.
