Man poses as jawan on matrimonial site, dupes Bhopal woman with sob story

BHOPAL: A case on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust was filed against an unidentified person following a complaint lodged by a 27-year-old woman.The complainant came into contact with the accused through an online matrimonial app, where he allegedly posed as a paramilitary force personnel and promised to marry her before duping her of money and gold jewellery.Cops said the woman, 27, met the man a few months ago via a matrimonial app. The accused introduced himself as a jawan posted with a paramilitary force. During their conversations, the man allegedly told her that he was being transferred to Siachen and shot himself in the hand to avoid the posting. He claimed that the organisation suspended him for 6 months and imposed a heavy fine. On the pretext of paying the penalty, he sought financial help from the woman.

Trusting him, the woman transferred Rs 1.20 lakh to his bank account as a 1month loan. After 1 month, when she asked for her money back, he told her that she could come to Delhi to collect it.The woman travelled to Delhi to recover the amount, but instead of returning the money, the man allegedly told her that he would visit Bhopal to repay her. He also reportedly took her gold chain, advising her not to wear jewellery while travelling. After returning to Bhopal, when repeated attempts to reach him failed, she approached police and filed a complaint.
