A man has been arrested in Bihar for brutally torturing his wife and locking her in a room for two days on suspicion of an extramarital affair. The woman has accused her husband of inserting chilli powder into her private parts, and using a hot iron to burn her thighs.
According to the victim's statement, the cruelty didn't stop there. She alleged that her husband, Shatrughan Rai (40), even tried to electrocute her and locked her in a room without food or water for two days.
The incident happened on June 13 in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district. The woman said despite her agonising screams, the neighbours did not come to her aid out of fear. It was only on June 15 that she was rescued after her brother came to her house.
She was initially rushed to the Paroo Primary Health Centre (PHC). Due to the severity of her injuries, doctors referred her to Shree Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH).
'IN-LAWS THREATENED TO KILL ME'
On June 16, the woman lodged an FIR against her husband, mother-in-law Dukhni Devi (45), brother-in-law Sumesh Rai (30), and sister-in-law Pushpa Devi (26). While her husband was arrested swiftly, the other members were absconding.
"The case is extremely serious. Charges related to domestic violence and physical assault have been registered. Raids are underway to arrest the remaining accused," senior police officer Ram Vinay Kumar told India Today.
Speaking to India Today, the woman said the ordeal began earlier this year after her husband and his family accused her of infidelity. The woman has been married for 10 years and the couple have three children.
"For the last six months, my husband and his family have been suspecting me. When I offered to undergo a medical test to prove my innocence, they threatened to kill me. Then, they did things that even animals wouldn't do," she said.
The police have assured her that the culprits would not be spared, and the woman would receive all possible support.
