Man, sister found hanging in rented flat in northeast Delhi

NEW DELHI: A man and his sister were found hanging in their rented flat in North East Delhi's Dilshad Garden. Neighbours reported a foul smell emanating from the flat on Sunday, prompting police to break open the door, where they discovered the bodies.Police received a PCR call around 8.21 am, and a team from the local police station rushed to the spot, which was a flat on the ground floor in D Pocket, Dilshad Garden."The flat was found locked inside, and on opening, two people were found hanging. They have been identified as brother and sister, who were residing as tenants at the above flat since 2021," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Priya Gautam said.They were residents of Baghpat. The crime team and FLS team visited the place of occurrence, and the crime scene was videographed. The DCP said so far they have not found any foul play in the incident.The owner of the flat said the duo had been living there since 2021 and kept to themselves. “They never interacted with anyone in the society, so most people didn’t know much about them,” the landlord said.He added that they were always punctual with their rent, except for the previous month.

“The last time I spoke to him was regarding the rent. He said his sister wasn’t well, so I told him not to worry and to pay whenever he could,” the landlord recalled.According to the landlord, the man worked at an IT company, while his sister was pursuing her studies. “They lived quietly. We never imagined something like this would happen.”On Sunday morning, the situation escalated after neighbours noticed a strong odour coming from the flat. “When we reached and checked, it was unbearable. That’s when the police were called, and the bodies were found,” he said.Police are investigating the case, and the crime scene has been examined by forensic teams. Cops are in contact with the family of the deceased.
