A tragic incident has been reported from Bidadi, South Bengaluru district, Karnataka where a 30-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after recording a selfie video blaming his wife for harassment. The deceased has been identified as Revanth Kumar, a resident of Annedoddi village in Harohalli taluk.
According to police, Revanth Kumar ended his life by standing before a moving train in the early hours of Monday. The incident came to light later in the day when locals spotted the body near the railway track. The video he recorded before his death has now gone viral in the area, prompting police to initiate a detailed inquiry.
The Video Message Before Death
In the selfie video recorded moments before his death, Revanth can be heard saying that he had been mentally harassed by his wife Mallika and could no longer bear the distress. “I am going to die. My wife is the reason for my death. She is giving me a lot of trouble. I cannot live life; I cannot survive," he says in the clip.
Investigators believe the recording was made shortly before he left his residence. The video has been handed over to the police as evidence. Revanth’s family members allege that his wife often quarrelled with him and that their marriage had been under strain for several months.
Married Just Five Months Ago
Police said that Revanth Kumar had been working in a private factory in the Bidadi industrial area. He had married Mallika around five months ago. What initially appeared to be a happy union reportedly turned tense soon after, with frequent arguments between the couple.
According to neighbours and relatives, Revanth had been visibly disturbed over the last few weeks. On Monday morning, he left home early without informing anyone. Hours later, railway staff informed the Bengaluru Railway Police about the discovery of a body near the tracks, which was later identified as Revanth’s.
Officials from the Bengaluru Railway Police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. They are verifying the contents of the selfie video and statements from both families. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Family in Shock, Investigation Underway
Revanth’s relatives have expressed deep shock and anger over the death. They have demanded a thorough investigation into the allegations made in his final video message. Police are examining whether there were any signs of ongoing domestic violence, psychological distress, or external pressure that may have led to the tragedy.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that Revanth may have been under considerable mental strain due to disputes at home. The police have stated that they will record statements from his wife and other family members to verify the claims.
Separate Incident in Udupi District
In another unrelated case, a 48-year-old man named Sudeep Bhandary, son of the late former Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary, also died by suicide on Monday night, October 13. The incident took place near Barkur, close to Brahmavar in Udupi district.
According to the Brahmavar police, Sudeep is believed to have laid his head on the railway track. He was a resident of Hebri taluk and owned a small wine shop in the area. Known among locals as a quiet and simple man, Sudeep’s death has left the community stunned.
Police suspect that financial difficulties may have been a factor behind his decision. The exact reason, however, is still being investigated. His family members are cooperating with the police, and a case has been registered at the Brahmavar Police Station.
Mental Health Concerns
Both incidents have once again raised questions about rising suicide cases in the state linked to personal and financial stress. Mental health experts continue to urge people to seek timely help in dealing with emotional or domestic problems.
If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, contact a local helpline or reach out to mental health professionals. Support and timely intervention can prevent such tragedies from recurring.
