A 39-year-old man, an expatriate, reportedly drowned on Friday morning after being swept away by strong currents while walking through a flooded stretch at Madhur Patla Mogar. His brother-in-law, who was accompanying him, survived by clinging to an electric post.
The deceased was identified as Sadiq, son of Falcon Aziz and Asma of Karipodi. He had recently returned from Dubai, where he worked as an accountant. He was preparing to return to Dubai.
The incident occurred around 9.30 a.m. The path that the two had taken had been submerged after the Madhu Vahini river overflowed its banks. Sadiq reportedly slipped and was carried away by the currents. The body was recovered after a search that lasted over an hour.
Sadiq is survived by wife Farsana Patla and three children.
