Manchester United are increasingly confident of keeping Bruno Fernandes, with Champions League qualification expected to be decisive in determining his future. The club need just two more points from their remaining four league fixtures to secure a top-five finish, a target that now appears well within reach.

Fernandes, who is under contract until 2027 with an option for a further year, faces a crucial decision this summer. While United are not obliged to offer him an improved deal, they are fully aware of his importance to their ambitions. The 31-year-old has been central to their performances, and his influence is regarded as vital if the club are to challenge for major honours in the coming seasons.

However, some uncertainty remains due to a £57 million release clause in his contract. If an interested club meets that figure, United would have limited control over the situation should Fernandes choose to leave. The midfielder has consistently emphasised his desire to compete at the highest level and win major trophies, making Champions League football a key factor in his thinking.

New Faces At Old Trafford?

With a return to Europe’s elite competition on the horizon, United are also looking to strengthen their squad. Potential midfield targets include Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Federico Valverde and Adam Wharton, as the club aim to build a more competitive midfield unit.

Another key factor is the managerial situation. Michael Carrick has impressed during his interim spell in charge, and Fernandes is understood to have a strong relationship with him, favouring his appointment on a permanent basis. Nevertheless, the club hierarchy continue to assess all options before making a final decision.

Since arriving from Sporting CP in 2020, Fernandes has proved to be one of United’s most impactful signings. Even during difficult periods, he has maintained remarkable consistency and now stands on the verge of breaking the Premier League’s single-season assist record, while also emerging as a leading contender for major individual honours.
