Ruben Amorim could train his eyes on the Portuguese League as Manchester United continue their pursuit of landing a new striker which reportedly hinges on their ongoing battle with Newcastle United to secure the signature of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. Newcastle have reportedly improved their offer to £70 million for the Slovenian forward while Manchester United are yet to make an official offer to the German club.

According to The Sun, Sesko has told both the interested parties he’s open to joining either of them. With their chances of signing Sesko diminishing, Manchester United have zeroed in on a couple of alternatives in Amorim’s home country.

The Premier League giants are now set to target two strikers – Porto’s Samu Aghehowa and Benfica’s Evangelos Pavlidis – currently playing in the Portuguese league.

Who is Samu Aghehowa?

Aghehowa is a 21-year-old Spain international who has Nigerian parents. He is similar in attributes to Sesko – At 6ft 4in, Aghehowa is known for his physical style and scored 27 goals for Porto last season following a £30 million move from Atletico Madrid.

This won’t be the first time that a Premier League club has shown interest in Aghehowa.

He was previously targeted by the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle.

Aghehowa had scored twice against Manchester United in Porto’s 3-3 Europa League draw when they were coached by Erik ten Hag.

Porto value their striker at around £70 million.

Who is Evangelos Pavlidis?

The 26-year-old Greek international has impressed in his first season in Lisbon. He has scored 28 goals across all competitions, including nine in the Champions League. He scored a hat-trick in Benfica’s 5-4 defeat to Barcelona.

Benfica could ask around £52 million for the 6ft 1in Pavlidis.
