Imphal: Former Manipur CM N Biren Singh on Tuesday said BJP MLAs from the state have conveyed the public’s desire for reinstating a popular govt in the state to central leaders, and the final decision now rests with them.Speaking to reporters at Imphal International Airport upon his return from Delhi, Singh said as a national party, the BJP must consult its top leadership before making decisions on key issues — including resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs), restoration of free movement, and the revival of an elected ministry.“We have approached the central leaders and conveyed the people’s desire. Now it’s up to the Centre to make a decision,” Singh said.He added that the Centre is closely monitoring developments in Manipur since the imposition of President’s Rule. “The law and order situation has improved significantly. If this trend continues, a popular govt will automatically follow,” he said.Singh added that representatives of various communities have begun meeting at the home ministry level to discuss the situation.“It needs to be understood that having a majority does not always mean a govt will be there.
Safeguarding lives, property, and maintaining law and order are important. President’s Rule was imposed due to the breakdown in law and order,” he said.Singh also condemned the recent demolition of the Manipur Rajbari in Shillong and called for an inquiry to ascertain the facts and identify any wrongdoing.More than 25 BJP MLAs went to Delhi to press for the reinstatement of a popular govt in Manipur. They met BJP national general secretary BL Santosh and northeast coordinator Sambit Patra, but were unable to secure an audience with the party’s top leadership.
