THANE: Many former corporators along with their supporters left Ulhasnagar’s influential local party, TOK (Team Omie Kalani), and joined the BJP.The prominent new entrants include former corporator Prabhunath Gupta and his son Babu Gupta, former corporator’s son Sanjay Singh, former corporator Sujit Chakraborty’s wife Chhaya Chakraborty, and former corporator Mangal Waghe.
They, along with several other TOK supporters such as Hema Pinjani, Suchitra Singh, and Suraj Bharwani, joined the BJP in the presence of BJP State President Ravindra Chavan and State Spokesperson Shweta Shalini.On this occasion, Chavan said that inspired by the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, several leaders from TOK have shown faith in the BJP.Ulhasnagar District President Rajesh Vadhrya, Ulhasnagar MLA Kumar Ailani, Mahesh Sukhramani, Jamnu Puraswani, Prakash Markija, Pradeep Ramchandani, Prashant Patil, and several other BJP leaders were also present.With these leaders joining BJP, Ulhasnagar District President Rajesh Vadhrya said, “Looking at so many opposition leaders joining BJP, we are confident that the next Mayor of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation will be from BJP.”With the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation elections approaching, the development is seen as a major setback for TOK leader Omie Kalani, especially after the exit of former corporator Prabhunath Gupta and his son, whose family has consistently won the corporator’s post from their ward for the last six terms.
