Maoist couple, wanted in several cases of attacks on security forces in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, arrested in Kothagudem

A Maoist couple, involved in several cases of attacks on police personnel in the Maoist hotbed of Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district and Chhattisgarh’s south Bastar region over the past few years, was arrested by police in Telangana’s coal town of Kothagudem on Monday.

Police identified the arrested Maoist couple as Oyam Bhudhu, 30, an Area Committee Member, and his wife Podiam Rame, 25, a party member, both natives of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.

The couple was nabbed by a joint team of Bhadradri Kothagudem district police and Maharashtra police during a vehicle checking drive in Kothagudem on Monday morning, police said.

The couple had been actively involved in Maoist activities in the Maoist hotbed of south Gadchiroli division for the past couple of years.

According to police, Bhudhu was wanted in connection with several cases of Maoist ambushes on security forces, including the attack on a combing police party in Koparshi forest area in Maharashtra in which a sub-inspector of police and a constable were killed on May 17, 2020.
