Mark Teixeira, the former star first baseman in Major League Baseball, announced on August 28, 2025, that he is running for the U.S. Texas's 21st Congressional District house seat.
Following incumbent Representative Chip Roy's announcement that he would not seek re-election, but would run for Texas Attorney General, he made this statement. Teixeira filed his paperwork with the Federal Election Commission and shared the news on social media, positioning himself as a proud conservative ready to defend President Donald Trump’s “America First” agenda.

Mark Teixeira played 14 seasons in Major League Baseball as a first baseman for a few teams, including the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees.
He was an All-Star multiple times in his career, and he won the World Series in 2009.
Mark was employed with ESPN as a baseball analyst until he finished his career in baseball in 2016. Mark said he went back to Texas in 2021.Teixeira said, “Playing for the Texas Rangers and raising my family in the Lone Star State has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Now I’m ready to answer the call to serve my country, my state, and the conservative principles that make Texas the envy of the nation.”

He has worked with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a conservative think tank, supported Governor Greg Abbott, President Trump, and Representative Chip Roy, The public tank was primarily concerned with government restructuring and education. Among the first Republicans running for this vacant seat is Mark Teixeira. The Republican candidate is expected to have a decent chance in the general election as the region leans sharply conservative.
