Shrasti Raghuvanshi, cousin sister of murder victim Raja Raghuvanshi, told CNN-News18 that Raja’s engagement and marriage to Sonam were conducted in haste, largely driven by pressure from Sonam’s family.

She also revealed that Raja had repeatedly expressed concerns that Sonam often avoided speaking to him, suggesting early signs of strain in the relationship.

According to multiple reports, Sonam had informed her family before the wedding that she was in a romantic relationship with Raj Kushwaha and wished to marry him instead.

Reports also state that Sonam warned her mother of potential “consequences" if she was compelled to marry Raja Raghuvanshi, adding that she should not be blamed for whatever might happen afterward.

According to Vipin, a close acquaintance of Sonam’s family informed him that Sonam Raghuvanshi’s mother had insisted she marry within their caste, despite knowing about her relationship with another man.

Vipin also stated that Sonam had warned her mother not to hold her accountable for anything that might happen after her marriage to Raja Raghuvanshi.

Sonam Raghuvanshi has now allegedly admitted to her involvement in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, according to the Special Investigation Team (SIT). However, this confession has so far only been made during police questioning.

The SIT now plans to formally record her statement before a magistrate. Police also intend to document her confession on tape as part of the ongoing investigation.
