Massive Fire Breaks Out at Khandelwal Market in Hazaribag, Rs 1 Crore in Damages Reported

Hazaribag: A major fire broke out at a godown at Khandelwal Market late on Saturday night in which property worth Rs 1 crore was gutted. The fire brigade said that they were still ascertaining the actual cause of the fire.

However, no loss of life and injuries were reported in the incident, the local police said. Four fire engines were pressed into action to douse the flames at the market.Among the shops gutted were a book store, one of the oldest in town, a garment store and a godown which stored junk items. Costly sarees, books, readymade garments were reduced to ash in the blaze, local shopkeepers informed the police. Officer in-charge of Lohsinghna police station, Nishant Kerketta on Tuesday said they were yet to receive exact amount of losses incurred.As a precautionary measure, a firecracker shop next to the market was asked to down its shutters by the police officials. On the Diwali night, a fire was reported from Katkamsandi, Hazaribag town, Katkamdag but no one was hurt.
