The British Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, experienced a major reshuffle on Friday, resulting in key departures and new appointments. Most notably, Angela Rayner resigned from her dual roles as Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. She has now been replaced by David Lammy, who takes on the role of Deputy Prime Minister in addition to his new post as Justice Secretary.
This cabinet shake-up comes after a week of discussions and just days after Parliament returned from its summer recess. Starmer had promised a “phase two" of his Labour government, but that plan was disrupted following revelations about Rayner’s tax default, which damaged her standing.
