US First Lady Melania Trump hosted a high-profile meeting on artificial intelligence at the White House on Thursday, bringing together leading figures from the tech world, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The summit, held in the East Room, was organised by the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence Education and focused on the importance of managing AI’s rapid development “responsibly."
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady emphasised both the promise and the potential risks associated with artificial intelligence. “I predict AI will represent the single largest growth category in our nation during the Trump Administration, and I won’t be surprised if AI becomes known as the greatest engine of progress in the history of the United States of America," she stated.
Melania Trump likened the growth of AI to the development of children, underscoring the shared responsibility of parents, educators, and leaders to provide proper oversight. “We are living in a moment of wonder, and it is our responsibility to prepare America’s children," she said, adding that the rise of AI must be guided with “watchful guidance."

Following the summit, President Donald Trump is scheduled to host a formal dinner in the Rose Garden for nearly two dozen leaders of major tech firms. The guest list includes Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and OpenAI founder Sam Altman. The dinner is expected to further discussions on US leadership in AI innovation and regulation.
The First Lady’s advocacy for responsible technology use is consistent with her broader public initiatives. In 2025, she successfully championed the Take It Down Act, which was signed into law by President Trump on May 19. The legislation targets internet abuse, specifically punishing those involved in sharing non-consensual, explicit imagery online.
Melania has also advocated strongly “Be Best" initiative, aimed at protecting children and youth in digital spaces. In August, she launched the nationwide Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge, encouraging students and educators across the country to “unleash their imagination and showcase the spirit of American innovation" by signing up through AI.gov.
Recently, the First Lady also released an audiobook version of her memoir, featuring AI-generated audio in multiple languages, highlighting her support for integrating AI tools in education and communication.
