Migrant worker killed in factory explosion

A migrant worker was killed in an explosion at a sofa manufacturing factory near Vellanad on Thursday.

The police identified the deceased as Saroj of Assam. The incident occurred around 7.30 a.m. at Uriyakode when a compressor used in the production of sofa sets reportedly exploded.

Saroj sustained severe injuries in the explosion. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he was declared dead on arrival. No other workers were injured in the incident.

The police and fire force have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the blast, and to assess whether safety protocols were followed at the factory.
