Millions of lamps were lighted across the ghats, lakes and ponds of Kashi as devotees celebrated Dev Deepawali, symbolising the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

The Kashi Vishwanath Temple was lit up with diyas on the auspicious occasion of Dev Deepawali on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to share breathtaking visuals of the city.

"The sacred city of Baba Vishwanath (Lord Shiva) is illuminated by the unparalleled radiance of Dev Deepavali," said PM Modi.

Around 2.5 million lamps were lighted on city’s ghats, lakes and ponds to mark the holy occasion.

Dev Deepawali, also known as the Diwali of the Gods, marks Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasura.

It is believed that on this day, the Gods themselves descend to Earth to celebrate Diwali along the holy river Ganga.

Fireworks illuminated the sky as devotees celebrated the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

PM Modi extended his heartfelt wishes on Dev Diwali as People from all over India and visited Varanasi to experience this divine spectacle.
