Minister for Industries and Commerce T.G. Bharath on Monday (September 1, 2025) said that the State government will support the farmers in all possible ways and the decision to purchase onion through Markfed is a vindication of that assurance.
Mr. Bharath on Monday visited the market yard at Kurnool and interacted with onion farmers who were facing problems getting remunerative prices. The Minister checked the quality of onion and interacted with the farmers from Errakota village in Yemmiganur and Alwal village in Gonegandla mandal and other villages.
The farmers told the Minister that excess rainfall had led to low quality and quantity yield and sought support from the government.
The Minister said that he had spoken with the officials and also took the issue to the notice of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. “The NDA government has decided to come to the rescue of the farmers and ordered the Markfed to purchase onion at ₹1,200 per quintal. The Markfed has already started procuring onion from today (September 1),” he said and added that the Chief Minister will never hesitate to come to the rescue of the farmers.
Mr. Bharath sought the cooperation of farmers in separating the damaged onion from the stocks while selling it to Markfed. He told the farmers that they will get the amount for their crop deposited into their accounts in a week and asked them to submit their Aadhaar card, bank account and e-pass receipt to the officials.
Later in the day, District Collector P. Ranjith Basha, Joint Collector B. Navya and marketing officials visited the market yard and inspected the procurement of onions by Markfed.
Meanwhile, District Horticulture Officer P. Ramanjaneyulu said that Markfed will procure onion yield of September month also and appealed to the farmers not to hurry in plucking the crop before it is fully grown.
