Minister conducts surprise night inspection at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital

Cleared /Salil (PUBLISHED ONLINE)Coimbatore: In a surprise inspection aimed at ensuring accountability and efficiency in hospital operations, minister for backward classes welfare and Coimbatore North MLA V Sampath Kumar visited the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in the early hours of Saturday, spending more than two hours reviewing maintenance, security and healthcare services.

The minister conducted the inspection without the accompaniment of senior officials.The inspection, which continued until around 3 am, came two days after the minister’s earlier visit to the CMCH, during which several complaints and allegations regarding administrative functioning were reportedly brought to his notice.During the latest inspection, Sampath Kumar focused on the performance of private agencies entrusted with maintenance and security operations on the hospital premises.

He examined duty rosters and attendance registers to verify whether contract employees were present at their assigned posts and whether attendance records were being maintained accurately.The minister assessed the quality of services delivered by the outsourced agencies and scrutinised their compliance with contractual responsibilities. Sources said he spent considerable time reviewing workforce deployment and operational procedures to ensure effective service delivery.

Apart from inspecting maintenance and security arrangements, the minister visited wards and departments functioning during the night shift. He reviewed the availability of medical services, interacted with staff members on duty and observed patient care activities in various sections of the hospital, including the outpatient and emergency units.
