Minister inaugurates rehabilitation colony for Ramayapatnam Port displaced families

Roads and Buildings, Infrastructure and Investment Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy, along with Kandukur MLA Inturi Nageswara Rao, Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu and State Maritime Board Chairman Damacharla Satyanarayana, inaugurated the rehabilitation colony allotted to Karlapalem displaced people for Ramayapatnam Port in Rapur on Thursday.

Addressing the people on the occasion, the Minister said that rehabilitation colonies, equipped with all facilities, are being set up for the displaced people who gave lands for Ramayapatnam greenfield port. Of the total cost of nearly ₹5,000 crore for the port, the State government has already spent ₹1,800 crore, and almost 77 per cent of the construction has been completed, he informed.

“With the arrival of companies like BPCL, this area will develop further. We have paid special attention to providing better rehabilitation to the project-affected villages. The rehabilitation works of the project-affected villages of Mondivaripalem, Avulavaripalem, Karlapalem and Salipet have been undertaken with State-of-the-art facilities,” Mr. Janardhan Reddy said.

“We have completed the construction of a rehabilitation colony on 23.08 acres for 220 displaced families of Mondivaripalem and Avulavaripalem villages, and the respective families are already residing there. The government has prepared new R&R colonies on 43.67 acres for 371 families of Karlapalem village and 8.26 acres for 84 families of Salipet village,” the Minister said.

“As part of the package, the government has allocated 5 cents of land for each family to build a house. We have provided infrastructure facilities like wide CC roads, drainage system, uninterrupted power supply, overhead water tank and RO plant for drinking water in the displaced colonies. A skill development centre is being set up to provide jobs to local youth,” he added.

Once the construction of this port is completed, close ro 6,000 people will get direct employment, and 60,000 people will receive indirect employment. As part of the rehabilitation of fishermen, a fish landing centre (fishing jetty) is being developed under the auspices of A.P. Maritime Board at Ravur village, without affecting their livelihood.
