Mines and Geology Minister Kollu Ravindra paid tributes to policemen who lost their lives while performing their duties at the police parade grounds on Tuesday.
The Minister, along with Krishna District Collector D.K. Balaji, Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu, and other officials, participated in the Police Commemoration Day parade. They laid wreaths and paid homage to the officers who sacrificed their lives combating anti-social elements.
“As police personnel of various ranks guard our borders and confront threats, we are able to lead peaceful lives,” the Minister said.
APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao and others were also present. Later, police officers organised a peace rally from the parade grounds to the district court complex to mark the occasion.
In Vijayawada, Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu garlanded the portrait of IPS officer K.S. Vyas, who was killed by People’s War Group (PWG) Naxalites at L.B. Stadium, Hyderabad, in January 1993. Deputy Commissioners of Police K.G.V. Saritha and S.V.D. Prasad, along with other officers, joined in paying tributes to the slain officer.
In Eluru, Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) G.V.G. Ashok Kumar, Collector Vetri Selvi K., Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore, and other officials observed a moment of silence and paid homage to fallen policemen as part of Police Commemoration Day. The IGP also reviewed the parade, and the names of officers who had laid down their lives in the line of duty were read aloud.
