Smart classes will be set up in some of the government schools in Belagavi Rural constituency soon, Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar said in Belagavi on Sunday.
She was speaking at an event to felicitate meritorious students from the constituency organised by the Laxmi Tayi Foundation, run by her family.
Over 600 students who have done well in SSLC and PU were felicitated. The award winners include Srushti Narayan Amatekar, a student of Muthaga village, who scored 99% marks in PU.
“This is my second term as an MLA. Since the beginning, I have focused on education and health. I am trying to make sure that schools do not suffer from infrastructure problems and lack of classrooms. Hundreds of rooms have been constructed and various facilities like compound, toilets, drinking water and playgrounds have been constructed in the last seven years. We will start smart classes wherever necessary,” she said.
She urged students to work hard and choose a subject of their choice. “There are several opportunities in life but you should spot them and utilise them in your favour,” she said.
She asked parents not to scuttle the dreams of their children for want of money. “If you face a problem, approach the foundation’s office,” she said.
The foundation will give away cash awards to students who score more than 90% marks, she said.
“I entered politics with an intention to doing good for society. There is good and bad in politics. But I tend to focus on the positives. The Belagavi Rural constituency is mostly a rural constituency and remains backward despite having the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, Sambra Airport and Visvesvaraya Technological University. However, the situation is changing slowly. The constituency is moving towards progress,” the Minister said.
