The Ministers’ committee, which was constituted to study and submit a report to the Congress on the 42% BC reservation, held a special meeting at Pragathi Bhavan in the city on Sunday evening.
The panel sought the opinion of Advocate General Sudarshan Reddy on how to ensure that the provision of 42% reservation for BCs in local body elections, did not give rise to any legal complications.
The committee also decided to seek the views of leading legal experts from Delhi on Monday.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and D. Sridhar Babu. Committee member Minister Ponnam Prabhakar shared his opinion with Mr. Sudarshan Reddy over the phone.
The panel recalled that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had promised caste survey to the people of Telangana before the elections. In line with that pre-election promise, the TG Government officially carried out the OBC caste enumeration.
