Minor convicted under POCSO act, sentenced to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment in Kurukshetra for sexually assaulting minor boy

KURUKSHETRA: In a significant judgment, the district court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge (Fast Track Special Court for Rape and POCSO Act cases), Kurukshetra, on Saturday sentenced a minor accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 for committing a sexual offence against a minor boy.Providing details, the Kurukshetra District Attorney said that the case originated from a complaint lodged with the police on March 4, 2024. A woman resident of the Krishna Gate police station area reported that she has two children and that on March 3, 2024, her son informed her that another boy had committed an obscene and wrongful act against him. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case at Krishna Gate Police Station under relevant sections of law and initiated an investigation.During the investigation, the accused, who is also a minor and a resident of Thanesar, was arrested and subsequently sent to judicial custody as per court orders. After completion of the investigation, the police filed the challan before the competent court.Following regular hearings, the Fast Track Special Court conducted the trial and, on January 17, 2026, pronounced its verdict. Based on the testimonies of witnesses and the evidence placed on record, the court held the minor accused guilty under Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The court awarded the convict 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. In case of failure to pay the fine, the accused will have to undergo an additional one month of imprisonment. The court also directed that the accused be produced again after attaining the age of 21 years, in accordance with legal provisions.
