Minor girl attempts suicide after sexual assault in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: A 13-year-old girl reportedly attempted suicide by consuming poison after being sexually assaulted by a neighbouring youth in a village in Puri district, police sources said on Sunday.Police officials stated that the victim's parents filed a complaint, prompting a search operation for the accused, who is on the run.The parents found their unconscious daughter at home on Saturday night and immediately shifted her to a govt community health centre. She was subsequently referred to Puri district headquarters hospital before being moved to another hospital in Bhubaneswar."According to doctors, the girl consumed poison but is in stable condition. Our teams are conducting raids at multiple locations to arrest the accused," a senior police officer said.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
