Minor girl charred to death in accidental fire in Bengaluru

A one-and-half year old girl was charred to death while sleeping in a room situated in the basement of a residential apartment on Cunningham Road on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Anu, the only daughter of Pushkar Kumar, 25 and Jyothi Kumari, 22. The couple hailed from Nepal and worked in an apartment as a security guard and domestic help for the last eight years and were living in a room situated in the basement of the apartment.

According to the police, the couple locked Anu in the room, as she was sleeping and went to work. They returned at around 6 p.m. and noticed the room was filled with smoke and there was fire in the room.

Other residents in the apartment panicked and tried to rescue the girl. They forced open the door and found the baby burnt alive in the room and alerted the Fire and Emergency Services. A fire tender rushed to the spot and doused the fire. The child’s body was sent for post-mortem.

The police filed an unnatural death report case. The police suspect that the fire was due to an electric short circuit. The blanket the girl was covering caught fire and the girl was burnt while sleeping.
