Minor held for murder of 10-year-old girl in Kukatpally

A minor boy was detained in connection with the murder of a 10-year-old girl in Kukatpally on Friday (August 22, 2025). The accused, a Class 10 student and neighbour of the victim, has confessed to killing her after she allegedly caught him trying to steal from her home.

According to Balanagar DCP K. Suresh Kumar, the boy had entered the girl’s house on the morning of August 18 intending to steal a cricket bat. “When the girl noticed him and tried to alert neighbours by shouting, he attacked her with a knife,” the officer said, adding that the boy did not expect to find the girl at home.

The incident came to light when her father, Krishna, returned home briefly from work to collect a tiffin box for his son. He found the front door bolted from outside. On entering, he found his daughter lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries. The girl had stayed home as her school had declared a week-long holiday, while her mother and brother were away.

The police are yet to formally announce the arrest. Further investigation is underway.
