A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday morning along NH-143 in Jharkhand’s Simdega district, resulting in the death of a minor and injuries to two others. According to the police, the incident happened when a car, driven by one of its four occupants, collided with a tree near Khairan Toli under the Simdega Sadar Police Station limits.

Officer-in-charge Rohit Kumar told PTI that the police received information about the accident around 5:30 am and promptly arrived at the scene. The SUV, driven by a class 9 student, had crashed into a roadside tree.

“One of the minors was found dead on the spot, while two others were seriously injured," he said. Locals shared that the SUV, driven at high speed, hit the tree as the young driver attempted to avoid cattle on the road.

“The intensity of the collision was so severe that Sufiyan Khan, around 16 years old, was thrown out of the vehicle and fell into a bush. He died on the spot. Two other occupants of the car – Ayush Prasad and Ankit Kumar – are undergoing treatment at Simdega Sadar Hospital," the police officer said.

The SUV belonged to Aman Topno, a class 9 student, who was driving with his friends. Topno was not found at the accident site, leading to suspicions that he may have fled or is being treated at a private nursing home. The police are currently investigating the incident and have sent Khan’s body for autopsy after it was declared dead at Simdega Sadar Hospital.

The accident occurred during the Karam festival holiday, and it is believed the youths took the SUV for a joyride. The police are questioning the parents regarding why their son was allowed to drive the vehicle.

“We are trying to ascertain from the parents why they allowed their son to drive the SUV," said another senior police officer.

Simdega Superintendent of Police Mohammed Arshi criticised parents for permitting minors to drive, emphasising the illegality and dangers involved.

“We have been constantly carrying out awareness drives against traffic violations and reckless driving in Simdega. But the parents should also be responsible and should not allow their children to drive four-wheelers, which is illegal," Arshi told PTI.
