Four persons were arrested in connection with death of a minor girl at Molandi village in West Bengal during a celebratory procession linked to Kaliganj bypoll results on Tuesday (June 24, 2025)
“In (the) incident of explosion at Molandi, Borochandghar under Kaliganj police station area, which led to death of a minor girl, 4 persons were arrested,” the West Bengal police posted on social media.
In a report to the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the police admitted that crude bombs were hurled from celebratory processions which killed the girl.
“At around 1 p.m., shortly after reports of the electoral lead by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate in the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll, a group of miscreants reportedly engaged in a celebratory procession during which crude bombs were hurled, allegedly to assert dominance over rival factions,” the police report to the CEO said.
The report added that one such bomb tragically resulted in the death of Tamanna Khatun, daughter of Hossain Sk of Molandi Belepara. She sustained grievous injuries and later succumbed despite immediate medical attention.
CEO Manoj Agarwal said that he will hold a meeting with District Electoral Officers ( DEO) so that such processions can be self regulated.

According to local residents, all four arrested belong to the same family and are supporters of Trinamool Congress. The family members of the deceased child are said to be supporters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Ms. Yeasmin said that the family will approach the Calcutta High Court and demand an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if those responsible for the murder of her daughter are not arrested.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people joined the final journey of nine-year-old Tamanna. Leaders of CPI(M) and Congress who had jointly put up a candidate Kabil Uddin Sheikh for the by-elections also offered their condolences to the bereaved family.
TMC candidate Alifa Ahmed won the Kaliganj seat by a margin of 50,049 votes. Ms. Ahmed expressed condolences to the bereaved family and said that there will be no victory celebrations.
