Itanagar: A 40-year-old woman was critically injured after being shot at in the back by a minor using a .22 bore rifle at Yomcha in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, police said.The incident occurred at around 8:30pm on Oct 12, said Aalo deputy superintendent of police Moge Bole. The victim has been identified as Yater Gamlin Potom, while the accused is a minor.Police said the minor — who was a domestic help at the residence of a police sub-inspector serving as the officer-in-charge of Yomcha Police Station — stole the rifle from his employer and was hunting birds when a stray bullet struck the woman.
Fearing consequences, the minor abandoned the weapon and went into hiding.An FIR has been registered at Yomcha Police Station under Sections (b)/118(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, read with Sections 25(1-B)(a) and 27(1) of the Arms Act, and Section 109(1) of the BNS.Both the minor and the sub-inspector have been taken into custody for investigation.The victim was initially treated at Yomcha Health Centre before being referred to Aalo General Hospital. Following CT scans and other tests, she was further referred to a hospital in Dibrugarh of Assam, due to severe internal injuries. She is currently admitted to the ICU and reported to be in stable condition.
