A man from Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, who had been missing for over five years, has been found appearing in an Instagram reels with another woman, according to police and family members.
Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Atamau village in Hardoi, married Sheelu from Murarnagar in 2017. The couple had a son shortly after their wedding. However, in 2018, Jitendra went missing, leaving no trace behind. His family filed a missing person’s complaint in April 2018, and police launched a search, but he could not be located.
At the time, Jitendra’s family reportedly accused Sheelu’s relatives of being involved in his disappearance. Sheelu, who moved back to her maternal home with her son, denied the accusations.
Just recently, Sheelu came across several Instagram reels featuring a man who closely resembled her husband. The videos, filmed in Ludhiana, Punjab, showed Jitendra living with another woman and actively making social media content. The reels have since been widely shared online.
Speaking to NDTV, Sheelu said that she had instantly recognised Jitendra in the videos. She stated that he was alive, living in Ludhiana, and appearing in reels with another woman, whom he had reportedly married. She also claimed that his family had hidden the truth from her and had wrongly accused her family of being involved in his disappearance.
“His family had filed an FIR, which I was not aware of, nor were my relatives. Now, I have found out through reels that he is living in Ludhiana, making reels with another woman, and has even married her," Sheelu said.
Speaking about the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police Nripendra Kumar said, “They were married. One year after the wedding, he left home without informing anyone, following which an FIR was filed at the police station.
After discovering the Instagram videos, Sheelu submitted a fresh petition at the Sandila police station, where the original complaint had been registered. Police have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, and legal action will be taken based on the findings.
