Several parts of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts have received moderate to heavy rain over the past two days. Heavy downpour in Hosanagara taluk of Shivamogga district and Mudigere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district prompted authorities to declare a holiday for schools in the respective taluks on Monday.

Rainfall continued throughout the day in many places, throwing normal life out of gear. Houses were damaged after tree branches fell on them, according to reports.

In the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday, Masthikatte in Hosanagara taluk recorded the highest rainfall in Shivamogga district at 178 mm. In Chikkamagaluru district, Bettagere in Mudigere taluk received the highest rainfall at 115.5 mm, while Kyamanahalli in Sakaleshpur taluk of Hassan district recorded 73 mm.

The average rainfall recorded in Shivamogga district in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday was 31.37 mm. Hosanagara taluk recorded the highest rainfall at 70.30 mm, followed by Tirthahalli (65.10 mm), Sagar (31.10 mm), Sorab (14.40 mm), Bhadravathi (11.5 mm) and Shikaripur (10.60 mm).

Inflow into reservoirs has been rising, pushing up water levels. The water level at the Linganamakki hydel reservoir in Sagar taluk stood at 1,751.6 feet against the full reservoir level of 1,819.12 feet. The gross storage stood at 19.63 tmcft (13%) against the gross capacity of 151.75 tmcft. On the corresponding day last year, the gross storage was 78.6 tmcft. The inflow on Monday was 18,486 cusecs, while the cumulative inflow since June 1 stood at 10 tmcft.

The water level at the Hemavathi reservoir at Gorur in Hassan taluk stood at 2,894.6 feet against the full reservoir level of 2,922 feet. Against a gross capacity of 37.1 tmcft, the reservoir held 16.64 tmcft (45%). The inflow on Monday was 6,294 cusecs.

At the Bhadra reservoir in Lakkavalli, Tarikere taluk, the water level stood at 2,111 feet against the full reservoir level of 2,158 feet. The gross storage was 26.54 tmcft against a gross capacity of 71.54 tmcft. The inflow was 4,135 cusecs.
