Music maestro AR Rahman is set to debut as an actor in 'Moonwalk', starring alongside Prabhudeva. Directed by Manoj NS, Rahman plays a quirky film director and has lent his voice to all five songs. The film, featuring Prabhudeva as a choreographer, promises a delightful cinematic experience and is slated for a May 2026 release.
Composer AR Rahman has received love from fans and audience for his musical genius, giving us one of the most beautiful and soulful tunes. Sharing his work behind the camera, he will now be seen on the big screens, making his debut as an actor alongside Prabhudeva in the upcoming film, ‘Moonwalk’, directed by Manoj NS.
Director shares his happy experience
As per a report by News18, filmmaker Manoj NS talks about working with Prabhudeva and AR Rahman. He said, “It was a wonderful experience shooting the song ‘Mayile’ with Prabhudeva sir and AR Rahman sir. The song has turned out well and is sure to be a feast for movie lovers in theatres. Prabhudeva sir has given one of his best dance performances for this song, and I sincerely thank choreographer Sekhar Master for making it truly special.

Rahman plays a funny film director
This is the first time ever that the ‘Jai Ho!’ composer will be seen as an actor. He will play a funny and angry young film director in this movie. He has also sung all five songs in the film. So his voice will be heard in every song. “AR Rahman sir appears throughout the song, adding a cute charm and a very special vibe to it. When I later presented an extended role to him after the song, AR Rahman sir graciously accepted it. This will be a surprise scene for movie lovers, and I thoroughly enjoyed directing AR Rahman sir in his first-ever movie scene.
I am deeply grateful to him for supporting our project ‘Moonwalk’ wholeheartedly right from day one. The entire set was so happy seeing ARR Sir having fun as an actor. It will be a scene which people will not expect," he added.
About ‘Moonwalk’
Prabhudeva also plays a very big role in the film. He will be seen as Babootty, a young and fun film choreographer. The director Manoj N S said he had a very happy time working with Rahman and Prabhudeva.The director said there is a special surprise about Yogi Babu, which will be told later. Many other actors like Aju Varghese, Arjun Ashokan, Satz, Sushmitha, Nishma, Swaminathan, Redin Kingsley, Rajendran, Deepa Akka, Santhosh Jacob and Ramkumar are also part of the film.‘Moonwalk’ will be released in May 2026.
