Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao said that about 18,000 potholes, 95% of the total, have been filled across the city, with another 5% of the work expected to be completed in the next few days.
During September, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah set a deadline on October 31 to complete pothole-filling works across Bengaluru.
Defending the delay, the GBA Chief Commissioner, at a press conference here on Friday, said that staff were engaged in the Social and Educational Survey, while rains had further disrupted the work.
Mr. Rao did not mention if a new deadline had been set for the potholes-related work and maintained that work would be done in the next few days.
When pressed by reporters on why the pothole deadlines were repeatedly missed, Mr. Rao attributed the delay to capacity limitations and a shortage of staff. He said the GBA did not have enough staff to inspect and verify pothole work each week.
“Under the Brand Bengaluru project, 44% of the sanctioned road works have been completed, while others remain in progress. The ‘Suraksha 75’ initiative, aimed at improving pedestrian safety and junction design, is about 40% over,” he added.
Tender for Tunnel Road in final stage
Mr. Rao also confirmed that tenders for the tunnel road project, one of Bengaluru’s most controversial infrastructure proposals, are in the final stage.
Dog bites menace
On the surge in dog-bite incidents, Mr. Rao said the civic body would comply with the Supreme Court’s orders on stray dog management and implement measures as outlined by the court.
Ejipura flyover to be completed by July 2026
Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao said the Ejipura flyover, which was earlier expected to be completed by June 2026, has now been pushed to July. The work on the Hosakerehalli and Yelahanka flyovers would also be expedited, he said. Mr. Rao acknowledged that land acquisition continues to be a major bottleneck but added that segment casting works were ongoing.
