Vasco: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) recently recovered Rs 5 crore dues from the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL). MMC chief officer Siddhivinayak Naik had issued a notice to the IOCL warning them to stop their operations on the municipal land if they failed to pay the dues.“Although the municipal authorities have received Rs 5 crore, that is just the principal amount. We will ask IOCL to pay 18% interest on the principal amount, which is around Rs 3.5 crore, Naik told TOI.“IOCL officials, at a meeting held with state chief secretary, appealed to the MMC to waive the interest amount. However, we have sidelined their request,” said Naik.MMC chairperson Girish Borkar said, “Municipality will now be able to provide medical allowances to employees that they have been demanding since 2022. We will also clear the arrears of labourers who have been given temporary status by state govt.”
