Motorcyclist killed, pillion injured in road crash involving dumper in Mumbai

MUMBAI: A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed and his friend seated pillion was grievous injured after they crashed into a dumper that had changed lanes on the Western Express Highway at Malad East early Sunday.

The dumper driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. Kurar Police have registered an FIR against the dumper driver and are looking for him.The road crash was reported around 1.30 am on the Pathanwadi flyover at Malad East. The motorcyclist, Nikhil Kadre, and his friend, Sumit Khairnar, also 22, had stepped out for a meal late on Saturday. They were returning from Malad to their respective residences in Goregaon East when the crash occurred. Police said the dumper was moving on the south-bound stretch of WEH and the motorcycle was behind it. Suddenly, the dumper driver applied brakes and veered to the right, causing the motorcycle to crash into it.

Kadre and Khairnar were rushed to the Trauma Care Hospital at Jogeshwari. Kadre was pronounced dead before admission while Khairnar is being treated at the hospital.Police are going through CCTV footage of the WEH to look for the dumper driver. They have seized the abandoned dumper from the crash site.Kadre and Khairnar were students, police said. While Kadre lived at Aarey Colony, Khairnar resided at Mukund Nagar in Goregaon East.
