A dramatic protest erupted in Bhopal on Wednesday as Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari marched to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s residence carrying a sack of paddy on his shoulder.

Patwari, accompanied by around 50 party workers and farmers, left the Congress office without prior notice to the police or administration, leading to chaos along the route.

Police attempted to stop the group multiple times by setting up barricades and deploying vehicles, but minor clashes broke out as Congress workers pushed through and continued toward Chouhan’s residence.

Later, in a post on X, Patwari said: “Today, upon reaching the Bhopal residence of Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan ji with fellow farmers, we discussed the farmers’ problems."

“Not getting fertilizers, seeds, and fair prices for crops, along with the burden of debt and crop failures, is forcing farmers to commit suicide. This situation is extremely serious. Farmers cannot be fooled just by rattling the toy of schemes. Our clear demand is that farmers should get not “Bhawantar," but fair and assured prices for their crops! Not assurances, but concrete solutions should be provided," he added.

The protest was aimed at highlighting farmers’ grievances and demanding direct payment for their produce instead of through the Bhavantar Yojana. Amid the commotion, Chouhan stepped out to meet the protesters and later invited Patwari and his delegation inside for discussions, which are currently underway.
