A review meeting chaired by Hibi Eden, MP, was held here on Wednesday (June 18, 2025) to take stock of the progress of redevelopment works at Ernakulam Junction, Ernakulam Town, and Thripunithura railway stations.
Expressing concern about the “tardy progress of work” at the Ernakulam Junction station, Mr. Eden said the project that had a deadline of July 2025 was slated for re-tendering. Any further delay in completing the project would put commuters and members of the public to severe inconvenience. He sought steps to impose severe penalty on the initial contracting firm that had failed to comply with the timelines for the station’s redevelopment and to prevent waterlogging. Railway officials said steps had been taken to blacklist the firm.
They added that the redevelopment of Ernakulam Junction would be completed by January 2027. The redeveloped parts of the station would be opened to commuters in December 2025.
Mr. Eden sought steps to build a foot overbridge linking the Thripunithura railway and metro stations.
Those who attended the meeting included T.J. Vinod, MLA, S. Kannan, Chief General Manager of Gatisakti, and senior officials of the Railways’ engineering, construction and commercial wings. They also visited the Ernakulam Junction and Town stations to review the progress of works.
