Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari has urged the South Central Railways to take up construction of platforms 4 and 5 at Nandyal Railway Station, which were sanctioned earlier, and other developmental activities at the station.

In a letter to Divisional Railway Manager Sudeshna Sen, the MP has said Platforms 4 and 5, which were earlier sanctioned, seems to have been removed from the plan. According to the MP, both Nandyal–Kurnool and Nandyal–Renigunta trains are being operated on the same platform causing severe inconvenience and confusion to passengers as both trains have similar formations. “To streamline train operations and facilitate smooth passenger handling, the construction of Platforms 4 and 5 should be included as part of the ongoing doubling works at Nandyal,” Ms. Shabari said.

Ms. Shabari further said that though the construction of a Road Under Bridge at Noonepalli was sanctioned earlier there was no progress in the construction of the RUB. The RUB continues to remain a longstanding demand of the public, she said and requested the DRM to expedite the project.

Further, the MP urged installation of escalators in view of the increasing passenger traffic and convenience of senior citizens. She also urged the DRM to construct stable lines for parking of trains at Nandyal and upgrading the station into a Coaching Station. The existing goods-related activities could be shifted to Nandipalli to decongest Nandyal station and making it more passenger-friendly, she said.

The MP said removal of shops at the station has resulted in many small vendors losing their livelihoods and urged the railway official to construction a commercial complex at the station premises to rehabilitate the affected vendors and also to serve the passengers better.
