Mumbai gears up for Ganesh Visarjan 2025: Traffic police issue advisory for Anant Chaturdashi

As the vibrant Ganeshotsav festival reaches its grand finale with the Anant Chaturdashi celebrations today, Mumbai is bracing for massive crowds and elaborate processions during the Ganesh Visarjan.

Lakhs of devotees are expected to participate in the immersion rituals across the city.

The Mumbai Traffic Police issued a detailed traffic advisory to ensure smooth vehicular movement and prevent gridlock during this significant event.

Key traffic restrictions and diversions

South Mumbai:

Vehicular movement will be completely prohibited on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road from Gol Deool to Padmashree Govardhan Bafna Chowk (Prarthana Samaj Junction). Motorists are advised to use alternate routes via Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road, Nivrutti Baburao Chowk (Bata Junction), Balaram Road, Navjeevan Junction, Tardeo Circle, and Nana Chowk.

Additionally, traffic from Navjeevan Junction to M Powell Junction will be restricted, with diversions through Patthe Bapurao Road, Javji Dadaji Marg, Opera House Junction, and Maharshi Karve Road.In Colaba, restrictions will apply on Captain Prakash Pethe Marg and Rambhau Salgaonkar Marg, as well as between Bhai Bhandarkar Chowk (Badhwar Park Junction) and Indu Clinic Junction, and from Zhulelal Mandir Junction to Sant Ghadge Maharaj Chowk.

Chembur (Eastern Suburbs):

Vehicles are barred from Hemu Kalani Marg between Umarshi Bappa Junction and Basant Park Junction, and on Gidwani Marg from Golf Club to Chembur Naka. Heavy vehicles are prohibited on R.C. Marg from Maravali Church to Chembur Naka in both directions, ensuring smoother movement for processions in this busy suburb.

Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road:

To alleviate congestion between North and South Mumbai, the police strongly recommend using the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road.

If necessary, northbound traffic on Netaji Subhashchandra Bose Road will be diverted from Islam Gymkhana to this coastal route to reduce pressure on inner city roads.Parking bans: To minimize roadside congestion, parking is prohibited on Nathalal Parekh Marg, Captain Prakash Pethe Marg, Pandey Road, and Rambhau Salgaonkar Road.

The citizens are urged to cooperate with authorities and opt for public transport options, such as local trains and buses, to avoid delays and reduce traffic congestion. The Mumbai Police has also deployed 21,000 personnel across the city to maintain law and order and ensure public safety during the Anant Chaturdashi processions.Residents and visitors are advised to plan their commutes carefully, adhere to the outlined diversions, and follow instructions from traffic personnel on the ground.
