Mumbai has been grappling with intense rainfall over the past few days, leading to disruptions in traffic and widespread waterlogging across several areas. The city on Wednesday received heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in isolated areas.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed that the weather was cloudy throughout the day. Meanwhile, Badlapur, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan, Dombivali and Thane experienced stormy weather and citizens are advised to remain indoors.

The current situation has disrupted normal life across the city and has raised concerns over Mumbai’s monsoon preparedness.

Mumbai’s Khar locality is also experiencing severe waterlogging since Tuesday, following heavy rainfall. Visuals from Swami Vivekananda Road near National College showed streets partially submerged in rainwater, with vehicles and pedestrians navigating through flooded stretches. The water accumulation on key roads slowed traffic movement, creating difficulties for commuters during peak hours.

Southwest monsoon rainfall over India is expected to be 106 per cent of the Long Period Average, India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday. This projection is more than the 105 per cent forecast in the April update.

The IMD said that above normal rainfall is most likely over the country as a whole during the monsoon season (June to September) 2025.

“During June to September 2025, normal to above normal rainfall is very likely over most parts of the country except some areas of Northwest and East India and many areas of Northeast India where below normal rainfall is very likely," IMD said in a statement.
