MUMBAI: A Mumbai airport worker was arrested for allegedly stabbing a 22-year-old passenger to death inside a moving local train after a dispute over closing the coach door during heavy rain, police said.The accused, identified as Roshan Suvarna, was arrested from Panvel after police tracked him through multiple CCTV footages.Suvarna, who works in the cargo section of Mumbai airport and lives in Mira-Bhayandar, allegedly attacked Mayank Lohar inside the first-class compartment of a Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local on Tuesday night.According to officials, Lohar was travelling between Andheri and Borivali stations when an argument broke out with another passenger over closing the coach door amid heavy rain.
The dispute allegedly escalated, following which Suvarna stabbed Lohar in the abdomen.The train reached Borivali station at around 11. 04pm, where the accused allegedly fled before the train came to a complete stop. RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel reached the coach shortly after and found Lohar critically injured.Lohar was taken to the Emergency Medical Room at Borivali station before being shifted to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police launched a search for the accused and examined CCTV footage from multiple locations. The investigation led them to Suvarna, who was later traced and arrested from Panvel.Western Railway officials said CCTV footage and other evidence have been collected and handed over to the investigating agencies. Senior officers monitored the situation through the night.
