Mumbai-London Air India Flight Delayed Due To Glitch, Flyers Stranded For 7 Hours

Air India flight AI129 from Mumbai to London was delayed nearly seven hours due to technical issues, leaving passengers frustrated.

An Air India flight from Mumbai to London was delayed by nearly seven hours on Saturday, leaving passengers frustrated. The flight (AI129), originally scheduled to depart Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 6.30 am, was rescheduled for takeoff at 1 pm.

According to passengers, the boarding process began around 6 am, almost 40 minutes later than the initial 5.20 am schedule. However, after boarding, they were asked to wait on the aircraft for approximately 90 minutes before the crew announced a delay, citing a technical issue. Passengers were then asked to deboard the plane, and their hand baggage was rechecked.

At around 8.15 am, flyers were informed that the departure had been rescheduled to noon, which was later revised to 1 pm. Many passengers, who had stayed awake overnight for the early flight, expressed frustration over the long wait and lack of clear communication from the airline.

In a statement, the airline attributed the delay to “technical issues" and confirmed that refreshments were provided to affected passengers.

“Air India flight AI129, scheduled to take off from Mumbai for London at 6.30 am, is delayed and yet to take off. Due to technical difficulties, the flight will now take off at 1 pm. Passengers have been provided with refreshments," the airline said in a statement.

The delay comes a day after operations at Mumbai airport were briefly affected by an air traffic control (ATC) glitch at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which disrupted over 800 flights across India, including cities such as Jaipur and Lucknow. Operations returned to normal earlier in the day, though some delays were reported.
